What are handicap and total markets?

A handicap or total adds a condition to a sports selection. Read the full market label and line before confirming your bet; choosing the winning team alone may not satisfy that condition.

Handicaps

A handicap adjusts the relevant score for settlement. For a simple two-way points handicap, a team at −2.5 needs to finish more than 2.5 points ahead. A team at +2.5 can lose by two points and still cover that line. These examples explain the arithmetic; the market’s own scoring period and rules still apply.

Totals

An over/under market compares the specified total with a line. For a goals total of 2.5, Over requires at least three goals and Under requires two or fewer. Check whether the total concerns the whole match, one team, a period or another statistic.

Check the settlement conditions

Whole-number lines can finish exactly on the line. Some markets allow a push, while three-way handicaps and other formats work differently. Do not assume every tie is refunded. Quarter-lines, where offered, can divide a selection across two lines; read their specific rules before betting.

Check whether extra time counts, which period is covered and what happens after a postponement or abandonment. Your accepted ticket and the applicable market rules take priority over these examples.

If the result looks wrong, keep the ticket ID and see check how a sports bet was settled.
